Here follows a taste of Russia! Here’s some true home (country) cooking. In the foreground: schii (vegetable soup), buckwheat kasha with chicken livers, fresh country sour cream, home baked bread, kapusta (cabbage salad), and tea (always). Back in the city, even a plate of fresh vegies is beautiful on a Russian table appetizers of cheese, meats and bread. okay — it’s not enough, Let’s add some fruit. Nona bakes incredible desserts. This chocolate torte with banana/sour cream filling was to die for. Lots of interesting teas here in Russia. I recommend this one. Yes, it’s baklava. Not Russian, of course. But the best and freshest I’ve ever had. Seconds? Yep. Plov (a rice and meat dish) cooked Uzbek style over an open fire in a cast iron pot. DELICIOUS! Hungry yet? I am!
